The scoring opened in the 24th minute when Johnny Nartowicz won the ball in the midfield then started a string of passes that resulted in a goal by Morgan Shepard. State Cup Training

There are four teams representing our club in the 2012 Florida State Cup:  U-13 Girls (O’Neil), U-16 Boys (Seketa), U-17 Girls (DeVito), and the U-18 Boys (DeVito).  In addition to training sessions, elite level tournaments, and college showcases, the coaches collectively determined that it would be beneficial to each individual team and to the club that we supplement our preparations with a State Cup Preparation Symposium.  All four of the teams and all three of the coaches (Greg DeVito, Patrick O’Neil, and Tim Seketa) met at Niceville City Hall on Saturday, March 17 to deliver the following information from the below itinerary to the teams and players.

Classroom Session (Niceville City Hall)

                                    8:45am                                  Player Arrival

                                    9:00am – 9:30am              State Cup Etiquette/Expectations/Goals

                                    9:30am – 9:45am              Defensive Principles of Play

                                    9:45am – 10:00am           Attacking Principles of Play

10:00am – 10:30am        Match Analysis (Champions League Match)

                                    10:30am – 10:45am        Question/Answer

                                    10:45am – 11:00am        Transition to Field Session

                                                      Field Session (Twin Oaks Park)

                                    11:00am – 11:00am        Dynamic Warm-Up

                                    11:15am – 11:45am        Defensive Principles (Shadow Play)

                                    11:45am – 12:15pm        Attacking Principles (Combination Play)

                                    12:20pm – 1:00pm          Match Application

                                    1:00pm – 1:15pm             Cool Down & Summarization

The objective of the session was to continue preparations for the State Cup, but also to place the players in an environment where they could advance their soccer education and player development to a higher level of thinking.  Each player focused well in the classroom session so that they could ultimately APPLY the concepts from the classroom onto the field.  All three coaches were thrilled with the efforts of all of the players in attendance.  They all hope to perform well in their respective State Cup age groups, but most importantly, they hope to keep improving upon their players’ and team’s development.
